About the role

We’re looking for a Installation Technician to install and maintain network cabling, access control, camera systems, and other low-voltage systems. You’ll conduct site assessments, coordinate with project teams, and ensure all installations meet technical and safety standards. This role is a great fit for someone with who is passionate about building strong technical skills, a customer-first mindset, and a willingness to learn and grow with new products and technologies.

Location requirement
This co-op position is based in Richmond Hill and may involve travel to customer sites across Ontario to support installation projects.

What you’ll do

Network Cabling Installation & Maintenance

  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot structured cabling systems including Cat5e/Cat6 cables, and related hardware.
  • Ensure all cabling installations meet industry standards and company specifications.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of cabling routes, termination points, and network diagrams.

Access Control & Camera Systems Installation - Relevant training will be provided

  • Install, configure, and maintain Access Control systems and Camera systems according to manufacturer guidelines and client specifications.
  • Integrate security systems with existing network infrastructure.
  • Conduct system tests, troubleshoot installation issues, and perform ongoing maintenance to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Provide technical support and training to clients on the usage and management of Access Control systems.
  • Additional products related to Access Control and Network infrastructure will be added from time to time. 

Site Walks & Customer Assessments

  • Visit customer sites to evaluate installation and cabling needs.
  • Assess existing infrastructure and propose effective solutions that enhance network performance and security.
  • Work collaboratively with project managers and clients to develop tailored installation plans that meet both technical and budgetary requirements.
  • Provide detailed reports and recommendations following each site assessment.

Project Coordination & Compliance

  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (project management, IT, and security teams) to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Adhere to safety standards and industry best practices during all installation and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to network and security installations.
  • Keep updated with the latest developments in network cabling technologies and product updates.

Customer Service & Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for technical queries and support related to network cabling and Access Control systems and other related network products as necessary. Training will be provided where applicable.
  • Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by delivering quality workmanship and responsive support.
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.

Must have

Technical Skills:

  • Understanding of installing and troubleshooting network cables and other related hardware.
  • Passionate about hands-on experience with the installation and configuration of access control and video surveillance systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Competency with tools and equipment used in network and security system installations

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good time management skills with a proven ability to prioritize tasks effectively.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites.
  • Relevant certifications

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.
  • Comfortable working in varied environments, including climbing ladders, working at heights, and navigating tight spaces.
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with installing and maintaining network and security systems.

Nice to have

  • Relevant certifications (e.g. Verkada, Cisco, IT-related manufacturers)
